Vancouver, Coast & Mountains

Abundance - and variety - describes the fishing opportunities in Southwestern British Columbia.

From urban settings within sight of Vancouver to remote rivers and pristine alpine lakes, the region offers sea-run steelhead and cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, coho, chinook, pink, sockeye and chum salmon - and the incredible sturgeon. The Fraser River and its tributaries are home to many trophy-class fish.

One of the area's most popular rivers - especially for fly-fishers - is the Skagit, near Hope. This beautiful mountain stream offers rainbow and bull trout, Dolly Varden and the occasional brook trout. The region has some 60 steelhead streams, from drive-in ones in the Fraser Valley to those along the Sunshine Coast that are accessible only by boat or aircraft.

Backed by the towering Coast Mountain Range, the Sunshine Coast's laid-back atmosphere is sharply tuned when it comes to fishing.

Quaint little towns hustle and bustle with anglers as they head out to mountain-fed lakes, streams and rivers that teem with steelhead, rainbow and cutthroat trout.
